Kuromi S: A Nintendo DS game coming soon!

What is Kuromi S?

Kuromi S is a Nintendo DS homebrew game I am developing. It's danmaku (bullet hell) style game based on the original TouHou game for NEC PC-9800 series of PCs. It's not exactly a TouHou fan game as it has nothing to do with TouHou, but it's heavily based on TouHou 1 (TouHou Project: The Highly Responsive to Prayers). I wanted to keep the gameplay style of the player running around on the ground and throws cards up to hit objects, but I also combined this with enemies that often fly by. In TouHou 1, Reimu throws playing cards up in the air and swings a stick to bounce a yin-yang ball around to flip over cards and attack bosses. As much as I liked this gameplay, I thought it'd be easier to make it so that the player in Kuromi S throws cards up in the air to hit enemies.

Characters

The player can choose between two characters to play as. Kuromi, a girl clad in red that comes from the modern city, and S, a shrine maiden clad in blue. I wanted to make this to allow people to choose between different characters. At the moment, they both have the same moveset, but I plan on adding special powers, attacks, etc. later on when I develop the game more.

Gameplay

The game play is pretty simple. You simply move left and right on the ground, dodge enemy bullets and attacks, and you throw cards in the air to attack enemies. The goal of the game is to survive through all the waves of enemies and also defeat the final boss in each level. You don't have to defeat all the enemies however. The waves are time based so after a while the remaining enemies will clear out and the next wave will come in until the boss comes in. Each level is called layers in this game as well. When you clear a layer, you progress to the next layer.

Can it run on real DS hardware or emulators?

YES! You can play Kuromi S on real DS hardware, as well as DS emulators. However, since this game is a homebrew game (Meaning that it isn't like a normal DS game cart), you have to run the game through special methods which I will discuss when the game releases. You can, alternatively, run the game in a DS emulator to simply the process, or if you do not own a real Nintendo DS system.

When will this game release?

No idea. I'm just 1 guy working on this game as a hobby so I have no idea when it'll release.

I look forward to you all playing this game in the future. I will update this page with screenshots and other details over time.
